Why Use Our Word Counter?
In the digital age, length matters. A tweet has 280 characters, a Google meta description has ~160, and a college essay has a strict word limit. Guessing isn't an option.
Word Counter gives you immediate feedback on the length and structure of your text. Unlike basic counters, we break down your content into granular metrics: characters (with and without spaces), lines, and paragraphs.
Most importantly, this tool runs entirely in your browser. Whether you're drafting a confidential email or a personal journal entry, your keystrokes stay private and are never sent to a server.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this counter include spaces in character count?
We provide two metrics: "Characters" (which includes spaces, tabs, and punctuation) and "Characters (w/o spaces)" which counts only the visible letters and symbols.
Is there a limit to how much text I can paste?
There is no hard limit imposed by our tool. You can paste entire books if you wish! Performance depends only on your device's speed.
Is my text saved?
Currently, we do not save your text to a database or local storage. If you refresh the page, your text will be lost, so be sure to save your work in a document editor.
How is a "word" defined?
We define a word as any sequence of characters separated by whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines). Hyphenated words (e.g., "long-term") are counted as one word.
How many tokens is my text? (Tech / AI)
While this isn't a tokenizer, a good rule of thumb for LLMs (like GPT-4) is that 1,000 tokens is approximately 750 words. Use our Word metric to estimate your API costs.
Is this good for TikTok/IG Captions? (Gen Z)
No cap, it's essential. Use the "Characters" count to ensure your bio or caption fits the limit so it doesn't get cut off mid-sentence. Keep it aesthetic.
How many pages is my essay? (Student / Non-Tech)
In standard formatting (Times New Roman, 12pt, Double Spaced), 250 words is roughly one page. If you have 1,000 words, you have about 4 pages.
